So when I've tried to run the Gothic 2 Online with the recommended version it didn't work, but after I've tried the "wooden" CPU version it did work fine and I could use D3D11 renderer with the game. For me, Gothic is a prime example of "Story through Gameplay" and difficulty is a big part of that. In Gothic getting from A to B is often an adventure of its own. You can get killed on your way to the Old Camp, and while you are trying to get into the castle in G2. For me it matters less how much expensive voice acting and cutscenes there are.

I do not recommend a mage build. It only goes up to circle 4 so it never gets as OP as Gothic 2. It’s an okay supplement, but if you’re already maxing bow, dex, alch, bow making, trophies, and investing at all in melee it’s a lot to drop like 10-20 per book to get spells.
I don’t have words to describe what a time travel experience I had during playing this game. It’s literally a tribute, the ultimate gift from fans of Gothic to fans. Gothic on steroids; they squished everything they could from this game. 11/10 I’m a 90’s kid born in Poland so gothic was my part of my childhood.
